Two hundred and forty six Michigan residents have contracted Covid-19 and three have died after being fully vaccinated for the virus, according to The Detroit News.
The cases in question happened between the beginning of the year and March 31st, 2021. All three that succumbed were over the age of 65.
Lynn Sutfin, a Michigan Health and Human Services spokesperson, stated that “While the majority of the population develops full immunity within 14 days of completion of their vaccine series, a small proportion appear to take longer to mount a full antibody response.”
Sutfin added: “These cases are undergoing further review to determine if they meet other CDC criteria for determination of potential breakthrough, including the absence of a positive antigen or PCR test less than 45 days prior to the post-vaccination positive test.”
As of this date, Michigan’s Covid-19 cases are rising and the state currently has had 804k cases with over 17 thousand deaths. Governor Gretchen Whitmer continues to encourage those in her state to get the vaccine, receiving her first dose this past Tuesday at Ford Field. She stated in part, “Everyone in Michigan is now eligible to get the vaccine, and I urge all Michiganders to get vaccinated to protect you and your loved ones from COVID-19. Let’s beat COVID-19 together.”
