Global Exclusive: Interview with Nina Ogot

The beautiful Afro-acoustic musician and former Radio France International presenter of Kenyan show ‘Bonjour Culture’, Nina Ogot, took some time out to do an interview with Miss T of NoirGossip.com and spoke on her music, inspirations, and goals for the future.  She is currently promoting her debut album entitled  ’Ninairobi’.  Check out the interview below of one young lady doing her thing!

Miss T: Tell us, how did you get started in the business?

Nina:  Only 3 years ago did I make a conscious decision to pursue music as a career. However, I was juggling my career in the media with music which proved to be quite taxing. Finally, this year 2010, I decided to pursue music full time!

Miss T:  Who/what has been the biggest inspiration to you and how?

Nina:  My biggest inspiration has been my soul and the pursuit of its depth. I must admit that getting to know myself is indeed a full time career in itself. I believe that the deeper you dig into yourself, the more the artist in you awakens. This is where my inspiration originates from, the well of my soul. On the other hand, I’m also inspired by real life experiences, precious moments in life, social issues and of course God, the creator and giver of my talent.

Miss T: Are you pleased with the progression of your career? Mainly are you glad to be working in the industry as of now or do you ever see yourself wanting to do something totally different or more traditional?

Nina: I actually prefer to address my music less as a career and more as a journey. It has been, it still is and will continue to be a wonderful journey. I am learning a lot from my experiences as a musician that I believe no other career can teach me at this moment in time.

This journey is teaching me that in order to fly, I must first learn to stand! It’s always a process with no shortcuts. I cannot predict what opportunities will come my way and if they’ll all be music related but I know that music is indeed a preparation and training field for greater things to come. I’m totally open and flexible to what life offers me.

Miss T:  I know you about your kenyan roots… what’s your favorite place in Kenya, What do you love most about where your from and what’s your favorite African dish?

Nina:  My favorite place in Kenya is EVERYWHERE! Seriously, Kenya is so beautiful with so many things to do and see; beaches, parks, resorts, campsites, ranches…etc) I find it really hard to pick a favorite spot, place or venue. What I love the most about my country is that you can never be bored here even if you tried, and the weather is marvelous almost all year round! Speaking of food, chapati does it for me. I can eat it everyday all year and never tire of it! For real.

Miss T:  Let me ask you about any current projects? What are you currently working on now? Any television appearances or Charity/community service activities?

Nina:  Yes I am working on different projects this year. Musically speaking, I’m working on my sophomore album to be released in due time. Socially, I love to put my hands on various and diverse projects that come my way. One social issue that touches me deeply is the plight of the street child. That is addressed in one of my songs titled ‘chokoraa’. The song was written my Sara Mitaru and I always sing it coz I felt that she hit the nail on the head with the lyrics.

Miss T:  What are some of your favorite past times or hobbies, things you do for fun?

Nina:  Believe it or not, music is my favorite pass time! It’s not just a career for me. It’s also a mental, spiritual and emotional getaway. I also love to travel and spend quality time with loved ones, it’s so refreshing.

Miss T:  Where do you see yourself 10 years from now? What are some of your goals?

Nina:  10 yrs from now, I hope to be a better version of Nina Ogot. Stronger, wiser and lovelier!

Miss T:  What words of encouragement would you give your fans who are interested in getting into the entertainment business?

Nina:  I would give them the same advise I gave myself : JUST DO IT!

Miss T: Thanks for the interview Nina.  Good luck with your music and stay in touch!!
