I tried the New McDonald’s Big Arch Sandwich: Was It Worth the Hype?

There are two types of people in this world:
The ones who see a new fast-food item and scroll past it…

And the ones who say, “Well, I guess I have to try it for research.”

Hi. It’s me. I’m research!!

Soooo when McDonald’s introduced the Big Arch sandwich, I already knew I’d be making a drive-thru run. Not because I was starving. Not because I needed another reason to eat fast food. But because sometimes trying something new, even something as simple as a burger feels fun! And sometimes, fun is exactly what you need.

First Impressions: This Is a Commitment

When I picked up the bag, I could feel the weight. This wasn’t a casual cheeseburger. This was a “clear your schedule and grab extra napkins” kind of situation.

The Big Arch comes stacked with:

  • Two thick beef patties
  • Three slices of white cheddar
  • Lettuce and pickles
  • Slivered onions and crispy onions
  • A sesame and poppy seed bun
  • And their new Arch Sauce
  • to top it all off, it has 1020 calories and 65 grams of fat!!!

It looks impressive when you open the box. Tall. Bold. Slightly intimidating.

And I won’t lie, I respected it immediately.

The First Bite (Preparation Required)

You don’t just bite into the Big Arch. You plan it.

I had to lean forward and mentally commit. This is a big product…err, sandwich, lol.

The first thing I noticed was the sauce. It’s tangy and creamy with a stronger mustard-pickle flavor than the classic Big Mac sauce. It’s bold without being overwhelming.

The beef tasted juicy (thankfully because that can vary by location and whoever is cooking that day). The cheese melted beautifully between the patties. The crispy onions added a nice texture at first, though they softened quickly.

Was it messy? Absolutely. The sheer size made it a messy meal with toppings sliding and requiring plenty of napkins. Was it indulgent? Definitely… and the veggie combo works well, giving the whole sandwich a bold, balanced flavor.

But sometimes messy and indulgent are part of the experience.

Is It Actually Good?

Here’s the honest truth: it’s good but it’s not subtle. It’s better than a Big Mac in my opinion. I am kind of embarrassed to admit I can eat a Big Mac in one sitting, but to be honest I could only eat half of this Arch sandwich before pushing it away from me and leaving to take an hour-long power nap. Seriously ya’ll, I slept like a BABY, here me?!?!

This isn’t your “quick light lunch” sandwich. It’s heavy. Filling. The kind of burger you eat when you skipped breakfast or you’re just in that mood.

Would I order it every week? Uh uh, I can’t do that or I’ll lose the little waistline that I do have left!
Would I try it again? Yes, especially if I was really hungry.

It feels like a limited time treat rather than a permanent replacement for your usual order. And I think that’s okay.

The Internet Had Thoughts (Of Course)

Now, while the burger itself has been getting attention, the rollout had its own little moment online.

The CEO of McDonald’s, Chris Kempczinski, posted a promotional video trying the sandwich, and let’s just say… the internet noticed his very small, very careful bite. Then he referred to this sandwich as product, which honestly didn’t do him any favors. It quickly turned into memes and playful commentary.

Then, because fast-food rivalry never sleeps, Burger King posted their own tongue-in-cheek response video. Nothing dramatic, just classic brand banter. Competitors even jumped into the conversation, adding to the fun and fast-food rivalry on platforms like TikTok and X.

It didn’t change how the burger tastes, but it did add a little extra entertainment to the whole launch.

So Here’s My final Verdict:

If you love big burgers and bold flavors, the Big Arch is worth trying at least once. Just go in knowing it’s messy, filling, and definitely not “light.”

If you prefer something smaller and more predictable, you might stick to your regular double cheeseburger.

Either way, it’s fun to see brands try something new. And sometimes it’s good for us to do the same.

Because sometimes grace looks like healing.
Sometimes it looks like growth.

And sometimes?

It looks like extra napkins and a really big sandwich. 🍔
