Pre-Covid, I always enjoyed going to Texas Roadhouse mainly for their snake bite appetizer although the food chain is probably better known for its hearty steaks and lively atmosphere. You might have overheard the infamous “Yee haw” hollered a time or two if you have ever visited one of these restaurants, but I’ve now come to find out that their signature sauces also deserve some attention. The Texas Roadhouse Steak Sauce and Gold Sauce are two popular options that enhance the dining experience with their unique flavors. I finally tried these sauces in the comfort of my own home, which are now available for purchase in select grocery stores. I thought I’d share my review of these items, which you can read below.
Texas Roadhouse Steak Sauce
This sauce is a classic with a twist. It has a rich, tangy flavor with a balanced blend of sweetness and spice. The consistency is thick enough to coat your steak without overpowering the meat’s natural flavors. It complements the steak well, adding an extra depth of flavor without being too bold or acidic. The ingredients seem to be a blend of tomatoes, vinegar, and spices, giving it a familiar yet distinct taste compared to more mainstream steak sauces. It’s perfect for those who like a traditional steak sauce with a bit more kick. I personally enjoy A-1 sauce better, but that’s only because I am kind of an old school gal. None the less, this is a very good option if you can’t get your hands on your favorite steak sauce.
Gold Sauce
The Gold Sauce is a standout for its uniqueness. It has a creamy, mustard-based profile with hints of sweetness and a slight tang. The texture is smooth, making it a great dipping sauce not only for steaks but also for chicken, fries, or even bread. The flavor is less aggressive than the steak sauce, offering a more subtle and versatile option. The slight sweetness pairs well with grilled meats, adding a light, refreshing contrast to the savory flavors. In my opinion, it’s also very, very smoky, and if you enjoy that kind of flavor, then it would probably go very well added to hamburgers made on the stove. The Gold Sauce also contains soy and wheat.
Both sauces add something special to the Texas Roadhouse experience. The Steak Sauce is ideal for traditionalists who enjoy a robust, tangy complement to their meat, while the Gold Sauce is perfect for those who appreciate a milder, slightly sweet yet smoky, and creamy option. Whether you’re a steak purist or someone who likes to experiment with flavors, these sauces provide a satisfying way to enhance your meal.
If you’ve tried either one, let me know if you liked them, and thanks for reading!
