Well, today is my birthday… whoopie!
No seriously, whoopie……………………….
I probably have 99 reasons I could complain today, because I cannot do what I would ideally “want” to do for the big 4-0. Let’s see… no dining out, no going on a small shopping spree or two or three, no getting together with extended family. I’m not even enjoying myself at the park today- and why not the park, well- we are currently under a winter advisory in the middle of April. It’s snowing and we are expecting at least 6 inches today.
My birthday is epic. No really it is. Let me tell you why.
God woke me up this morning! He didn’t have to do it but he did. I really should be dead and gone – sleeping in my grave, but instead I woke up today with my right mind, and a roof over my head, a job that I can work at home for, and all my bills currently paid and up to date. And I’m blessed to not have contracted Covid-19, or to have been personally affected by this terrible virus either.
I’ve got a kitchen full of food, and I’m still blessed to rather order take out because well, I just didn’t want to cook for my birthday! I’ve been shopping online a bit more than I should be (probably out of going stir crazy at home) but being able to do that when so many other people can’t is just another one of God’s blessings as well!
I can reflect on my life and realize how far I’ve gotten thus far; how many times I’ve been protected from harm, healed from various sicknesses, and the many “angels” God sent in my life who have helped me along throughout the last past 40 years.
When I think of everything I’ve been through – I’m so amazed. I’m more at awe with the fact that it was no one but God who kept me here, gave me strength when I had none and kept safe despite all of it. Why does he love all of us so much, so unconditionally? I will never understand it but I thank Him for it daily.
And so, YES… despite all my daily struggles, this birthday that I’m celebrating today without any cake, material gifts and absolutely no fanfare at all, is by far my best birthday yet <3.
